HTWD’s First Decorating Class

High Tea with Dragons is a huge part of my life and one of my favourite parts is getting to know some of my lovely readers. Which is why I was so excited to announce that I would be hosting decorating classes – what better way to get to know you than over copious amounts of buttercream, sweet treats and decorating?

On Saturday I had the absolute pleasure of hosting my very first decorating class – Beginner’s Cupcake Decorating! Having spent the morning baking, preparing goodie bags, making cupcake toppers and setting everything up, I couldn’t wait for the six lovely ladies to arrive so we could get the class going.

As a beginner’s class we ran through the basics of cupcakes all the way from coring and filling to making and piping buttercream. I showed the ladies how to decorate a cupcake in three different ways using just one decorating tip – the perfect challenge for any beginner decorator!

It didn’t take long for them to catch on and they were soon piping beautiful, professional looking swirls that were sure to impress their friends and family when they got home! With all the cupcakes iced and decorated the ladies enjoyed an afternoon tea of soda and cupcakes while I packaged up their treats.

Little over two hours after they arrived the ladies headed home armed with gorgeous cupcakes, a wee goodie bag filled with treats and the skills to be able to decorate beautiful cupcakes at home – a pretty successful afternoon!

I was so, so lucky to have some wonderful sponsors involved in the decorating class that helped make the afternoon so much more special! A huge thank you to Billington’s for supplying the sugar for the cupcakes and goodie bags, Maru Store for sending each student home with a roll of gorgeous washi tape, The Pretty Baker for helping with all the wonderful sprinkles and Little Ink for supplying twine, glass bottles and straws for our afternoon tea!

Finally, a great big thank you to Rhys Lake Photography for coming along and photographing the class – not only is he a hugely talented photographer, but he’s also a wonderful person and so much fun to have around.

This is such a great idea! I’m definitely keeping it on my hen party list for friends or just a nice birthday surprise for my group of friends. It would be a fun work team building day too!
