Big news – Kevin and I are heading off on a five-week long Northern Hemisphere adventure in just three months; I cannot wait!
One of my best friends is getting married in Somerset in July and there was never any question about whether we’d head over for it – as soon as she told us she was engaged I was planning the trip!
We decided to build a holiday around the wedding and have been busy saving, planning and booking for the trip for almost a year and now it’s just around the corner. To say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement.
Here’s a peek at what destinations we have planned so far…
New York City. We spent six days in NYC over Christmas in 2012 and absolutely fell in love with the place, so when it came time to book our flights over to Europe we decided it was the perfect excuse to go back. Last time we were there the city was in the depths of winter, so we can’t wait to see it at its leafy summer-best.
Iceland. After five nights in NYC we’re jetting off to Iceland for two nights of adventure in the midnight sun. We’ve got a lot to pack in to those two days, with tectonic plates, thermal pools and iceberg cruises all on the itinerary. The geography-nerd in me is beyond excited for this part of the trip!
Paris. We have six days in the French capital where I’m looking forward to enjoying all the pastries and champagne our budget can allow. Having not spoken a word of French since high school, I think a bit of brushing up on the old Francaise will be in order before we arrive!
London. One of our best friends is now living in London and we cannot wait to catch up with him after more than a year of Skyping. We have a busy six days planned already – think afternoon tea at the Ritz, a show on the West End and visiting Harry Potter Studios (eep!)
Roadtrip. We’re hiring a campervan and meandering around the British countryside for a few days before heading down to Somerset to see one of our other best friends (and the reason for the whole trip) ahead of her wedding! We’ll be in town for the Hens and Stag dos, so this part of the trip is bound to be a lot of fun.
Scotland. Once the headaches from the weekend wear off we’ll be jumping back in the campervan and driving up to Scotland for a week of adventures. We’ll be following our noses for this part, driving a loop around the country right up to the top of the Isle of Skype. Shaggy cows, loch ness monsters and whisky will all be featuring.
Wedding bells! We’ll be driving back to Somerset for our wonderful friends’ wedding, which is shaping up to be absolutely beautiful. We wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Paris. My birthday is the day before we begin our journey home, so we decided to spend it in Paris. We have fancy hotel booked, complete with a view of the Eifel Tower.
Tahiti. We have two nights in Tahiti on the way home to relax in the sun and get a bit of rest in before heading back to reality.
Pretty wonderful, huh? I’m always on the lookout for things to add to our itinerary, so let me know if you have any tips or tricks for the trip – I’d love to hear them!
