Handmade paper portraits

Back in January Kevin and I celebrated our first year of marriage with a wonderful day out playing tourist in our own city – we had lunch at our reception venue, stayed in a lovely hotel, treated ourselves to a beautiful dinner and finished the day with a slice of our wedding cake and a glass of our favourite champagne. It was perfect.

Having decided to stick with traditional anniversary gifts, we were busy in weeks leading up to our first anniversary as we brainstormed all kinds of paper-based gifts – art prints, photographs, notebooks… there were lots of ideas around, but none of them really clicked. Until I came across Brittani Rose Paper on Etsy.

Europe, here we come!

Big news – Kevin and I are heading off on a five-week long Northern Hemisphere adventure in just three months; I cannot wait!

One of my best friends is getting married in Somerset in July and there was never any question about whether we’d head over for it – as soon as she told us she was engaged I was planning the trip!

We decided to build a holiday around the wedding and have been busy saving, planning and booking for the trip for almost a year and now it’s just around the corner. To say I’m excited is a bit of an understatement.

Here’s a peek at what destinations we have planned so far…

Three ways to make entertaining a cinch

This time of year is all about entertaining and barbeques are my absolute go-to. I love nothing more than throwing open the French doors on a warm summer evening, throwing some food on the BBQ and catching up with friends and family.

It sounds pretty good right? The only trouble is the planning – before you know it even the simplest get-together can become a complicated web of planning, cooking and shopping. Suddenly it’s not simple the easy summer evening you envisaged.

Luckily I have a few tricks up my sleeve that help making hosting summer get-togethers a total cinch – no more complicated drinks to prepare, mounds of dishes to wash and dry in the morning or time consuming desserts to whip up (woohoo!)

Hands up if that sounds amazing… yip, I thought so. Here are three ways to help make summer entertaining an absolute breeze.

Happy Monday!

I know I probably shouldn’t say this, but I absolutely loved the weather we had this past weekend – how nice was it hearing rain on the roof and enjoying a bit of relief from the sticky weather we’ve been having lately? Hopefully it’s back to being beautiful for the long weekend though – two short weeks in a row, how good is that?

I hope you had a wonderful weekend and are all set for the week ahead – here are five things to brighten your Monday…

One year

one-year-anniversary-1

One year ago today I married my best friend.

We were so lucky to enjoy the most wonderful day filled with loved ones, sunshine and laughter. The weather was perfect, the gardens looked beautiful, the reception was stunning and the photobooth was without a doubt the best thing I’ve ever spent money on. Seriously, I spent most of the night in there.

And then of course there was Kevin, who looked the most handsome I’ve ever seen him decked out in his suit and tie and surprised me with the most beautiful wedding vows I could have imagined – even after eight years together he still has a few tricks up his sleeve!

A year on, there’s still not a single thing I’d change about the day. Well, other than remembering to eat more wedding cake!
