Winter is cold in New Zealand, and this year has been no exception. As I write this my little fingers are freezing, and my toes are hiding in some new slippers trying desperately to warm up.

I love decorating my home, because in winter it becomes my haven and little ‘safe zone’ for curling up and going into hibernation.

For the last couple of weeks I have shown you my favourite pieces from the marble and copper trends that have hit the homeware scene. Tonight, I have an absolute classic for you, to round off this segment nicely. GEOMETRIC!

Winter can be a harsh season when it comes to keeping that motivation going, and staying happy. The best thing I can do is make sure my home is looking good so when I finish up each day, I can get home, get warm and feel really good about my surroundings.

Last week I showed you one of my favourite new homeware trends out, marble. But this week we’re bringing it back to something a little more familiar, with copper.

Yes, metallic decor has been around for a while now, but this week we’re focusing on the burnt rose gold, and super inspiring colour, copper.

Winter. For many New Zealanders the colder weather is a little hard to deal with (especially when we have such beautiful summers), and I am no exception.

My favourite thing to do in winter (apart from treat myself to not one but two new warm coats) is update my decor. I mean, there’s nothing better than getting home from work, getting into some comfortable trackies and slippers, and warming up your beautiful house.

Over the next couple of weeks I will show you my three favourite trends for winter, but first up we have a new one. MARBLE. Yes, imagine a stunning granite top counter, and we’re both on the same wave. Contemporary, calming and quite luxurious, marble is making big waves in home decor.

Peek inside: Our home office

Do you have a room in your house that you spend a lot of time in, but you never quite bother to make it a nice place to spend all that time in? You know, you just haven’t bothered bringing in all those little things that help make a room so much nicer?

While I love most of our home, my home office has been a little neglected since we moved in over a year ago. I have some rather grand plans for the room that are awhile off, but instead of making it a nice place to be in the meantime, I just set it aside as something I’ll sort out one day.

Well, one day has arrived and I am officially in love with my office – it’s looking seriously cute! The best part? All it took were a few small changes a $50 shopping spree with Mighty Ape.

Custom watercolour prints

I don’t know about you, but I absolutely love gift giving – whether it’s a birthday, baby or wedding, I am busy planning the perfect gift weeks (if not longer) in advance. There’s just something about finding that one thing that you absolutely know they’ll love, right?

A few weeks ago I was lucky enough to celebrate the wedding of one of my best friends from my university days to her lovely now-husband – and the gift brainstorming began as soon as I spotted the invite in the mail! The trick? They’re heading off sailing the seven seas later this year so space is limited.

And that’s where Lovingly Kate comes in. Not only is Kate an awesome graphic designer, but she also creates custom watercolour portraits based on photos you flick through to her by email – and they are amazing.

The start of every new season is a great time to sweep through your home and give it a bit of a refresh – update the photos you have up around the house, clear out some of the clutter that’s built up and take a fresh look at the styling around your home.

Handmade paper portraits

Back in January Kevin and I celebrated our first year of marriage with a wonderful day out playing tourist in our own city – we had lunch at our reception venue, stayed in a lovely hotel, treated ourselves to a beautiful dinner and finished the day with a slice of our wedding cake and a glass of our favourite champagne. It was perfect.

Having decided to stick with traditional anniversary gifts, we were busy in weeks leading up to our first anniversary as we brainstormed all kinds of paper-based gifts – art prints, photographs, notebooks… there were lots of ideas around, but none of them really clicked. Until I came across Brittani Rose Paper on Etsy.
